Lady Gaga performing at the ITunes festival last year
It is no secret that Lady Gaga's ARTPOP wasn't embraced with open arms by some critics, and I use the term 'critics' very loosely. Reading some of the reviews I saw critics brand Gaga's latest effort as 'bland' and 'mainstream' but in the same review I read that she is 'trying too hard to be different' this is one of the many ridiculous contradictions I came across when reading ARTPOP reviews. An overwhelming amount of articles also spent a lot of time talking about anything but the music, which leads me to ask. Are critics trashing Gaga for nothing other than personal gain?

It seems to have become a trend recently, bashing Lady Gaga that is. Some 'critics' have even retitled the album ARTFLOP, I disagree with this for two reasons 1.) her sales where completely in line with the other females who released late last year (Miley, Katy) and 2.) sales figures do not represent the quality of the music. Anyway my point being Gaga's fans (her little monsters) defend her ferociously and the more outrageous an article about her the more monsters come to defend her bringing more hits to a website or blog.

To me it feels like many journalists (again using the term loosely) are sacrificing any form of integrity to try and raise their site or blogs popularity, and instead of reporting on her music they are reporting on her as a person. Sifting through heaps of bloggers articles I've found a lot of people saying that Gaga peaked with the fame monster, my problem with this is that the fame monster was an 8 song EP, if you take the 8 best ARTPOP songs you have something that in my opinion is equally as good. I'm not saying ARTPOP and the album campaign is without any flaws (jewels and drugs, oh and lets not get started on the whole mess that surrounds the Do What U Want music video) but this mindless biased journalism against her is completely unjust and unfair.
